![]() ![]() In the episodes I saw, a total of three officers from Buff Clan manage to infiltrate the colony on Solo. The Ideon and the space ship on Solo are suddenly activated, after being long dormant, by the attack from Buff Clan and are used by the colonists to defend themselves and evacuate the planet and head off through space towards Earth, pursued the whole while by the invaders from Buff Clan, who are seeking the "Id" for themselves. The colonists of Solo have access to an ancient giant robotic fighting vehicle called the Ideon, as well as a massive ancient underground space ship, both powered by an unknown source, but suspected to be the legendary Id. The series is about an attack on the planet Solo, containing a colony of travelers from Earth, by an invasion force from Buff Clan, a planet 2.5 million light years away, most likely also descended from human colonists. Both have colonists being evacuated aboard a massive space ship, with groups of little kids getting underfoot throughout, although in "Ideon" this proves a Godsend. Both feature a secret source of power with a mystical angle to it ("New Type" in Gundam vs. Both feature human colonies in outer space being attacked by human competitors. "Ideon" has many elements in common with "Gundam." Both feature youthful protagonists who pilot giant robotic combat vehicles. It was created and directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, best known for "Mobile Suit Gundam" (1979), a similarly-themed giant robot anime series that also boasted movie spin-offs. "Space Runaway Ideon" is a Japanese animated TV series that ran for 39 episodes in 1980-81 and was later condensed into a movie spin-off entitled THE IDEON: A CONTACT. Such a great anime this is, this one highly deserves to be released outside Japan where it was made, and I should wish that more people (mainly fans of Gundam-like Mecha-anime) would get to discover and eventually watch this masterpiece at least once. "The Ideon: Be Invoked" however contains the final unaired episodes which should end the Ideon saga once and for all. Following said cancellation, due to demands for the remaining four episodes, two movies were made: The first one named "The Ideon: A Contact" is basically a summary of the first 32 episodes, with a few additional scenes only made for the movie. Originally, 43 episodes were supposed to be aired on TV, but due to low ratings, the rest of the series was cancelled after 39 episodes. ![]() Upon watching this anime, I got sympathy for most of the crew on the Solo Ship, including Cosmo Yuuki, Karala Ajiba and Sheryl Formosa just to name a few. The soundtrack was pretty great, and fits perfectly for not only the combat scenes, but also most of the scenes of other stuff like dramatic, mystery and tragedy. For something released on Japanese TV in very early 80s, nearly each episodes have lots of intense battle sequences which should satisfy any fans of combat-robot-anime, and the Mecha-animation is just as great as it could be. Just after watching the first two-three episodes, I just got hooked on this series. After the "Ideon" and the spaceship (now called the Solo Ship) suddenly get activated, the crew on the Solo Ship (now in space) get constantly attacked by a group of pestering but powerful aliens called the Buff Clan, who are trying to get a hold of the "Id", the mysterious energy which powers "Ideon". Basic plot: During an attack on planet Solo, a group of people discover the ruins of a long dead alien civilization, a three-part combat robot called "the Ideon", and later a huge, powerful spaceship. It was directed by Yoshiyuki Tomino, also known for other Mecha-series like "Gundam" and "Heavy Metal L-Gaim". It's an Animation and Science Fiction movie with a better than average IMDb audience rating of 7.5 (175 votes)."Densetsu Kyojin Ideon", also called "Space Runaway Ideon", is a Mecha-Anime-series from 1980 which consists of 39 episodes. For the Solo Ship and the Buff Clan, the final conflict is rapidly approaching.Space Runaway Ideon: Be Invoked featuring Yoku Shioya and Keiko Toda is not currently available to stream, rent, or buy but you can add it to your want to see list for updates. They cannot abandon the Ideon for fear of what others may try to do with its power, but they do not control it and its very existence among them only incites further bloodshed from their relentless foe. Can the lethal weaponry prepared by the Ome Foundation truly prove sufficient to slay the Giant God of legend, Ideon? Meanwhile, on the Solo Ship, the Earthlings only want a planet they could escape to to avoid the endless attacks of the Buff Clan - a desire they know can never be. And even with all these forces, Supreme Commander Doba is troubled - he has staked the future of his entire people on this military might. Above the Buff Clan homeworld rises their complete fleet of battleships and heavy mobile mechas, dominated by the awesome majesty of their latest and most deadly superweapon. ![]()
